Kagithane is one of the 39 districts of Istanbul. Located on European side of the city. It has become one of the largest real estate development areas in the city. Kagithane is bordered by Sariyer to the north, Besiktas to the northeast, Sisli to the east and south, Beyoglu to the southwest, and Eyupsultan to the west.
In the time of Suleiman the Magnificent, the district was a forested land and a hunting destination. Its name wasn’t Kagithane back then, it was called “Sabadad”. In the 17th and18th centuries, mansions and summer palaces were built in the district.

Between the 19th and 20th centuries, it became a region of factories. Its name changed since it became a region of paper factories. The name of the region has changed to Kagithane. The name Kagithane is actually combining two words. The word “Kagit” actually means “paper” in Turkish and the word “hane” means “house”. The combination of the two means “paper house”.
